The issue of Vietnam started after the Second World War ended and Japan withdrew from Vietnam. But Ho Chi Minh was very much successful in creating anti-French sentiments in Vietnam and was successful in defeating French in 1954 after a long guerrilla war that was fought to free Vietnam. After that, a peace negotiation in Geneva led to the division of Vietnam into north and south regions and the north came under Ho Chi Minh who was a communist leader and South remained non-communist. North Vietnam was supported by the Soviet Union and China and North Vietnam was maintained by the United States. Therefore, America has always been involved with Vietnam.
